Job Title: Campus Reading Specialist PK-8 Wage/Hour Status: Reports to: Director of Elementary Education Pay
Grade: Dept./School: Campus Assigned Date Revised: February 24, 2004 Primary Purpose:Serve as early intervention specialist for struggling readers, which will include students with dyslexia. Assist teachers with instructional methodologies. Qualifications:Education/Certification: Master’s Degree in Reading or Master’s Degree in Education with Specialization in Reading Reading Recovery Training, preferred Master Reading Teacher Certification, preferred Complete dyslexia training within one year of employment (provided by District) Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to organize and coordinate districtwide programs for campus study groups Knowledge of curriculum and instruction in reading Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Experience: Minimum three years experience as a reading specialist teacher, preferred Major Responsibilities and Duties:District Level1. Report to Director of Elementary Education, Director of Secondary Education and Language Arts Program Coordinator 2. Attend scheduled meetings with Language Arts Program Coordinator. 3. Attend staff development opportunities provided by the District. 4. Serve on District committees to update/revise curriculum content and guides. 5. Present District professional development workshops during summer intercession. Campus Level 6. Report to building administrator 7. Serve as chairman of Campus Literacy Committee 8. Serve as coordinator of campus study groups. 9. Disseminate information from District meetings to campus language arts teachers/principals. 10. Model reading lessons, strategies, and effective classroom management system. 11. Provide intervention strategies for Literacy Groups – Accelerated Reading Instruction (ARI) 12. Conduct campus staff development. 13. Meet with language arts teachers as needed to discuss individual students, strategies, problems, etc. 14. Identify and serve students with dyslexia. 15. Provide intervention strategies for student success on TAKS. Supervisory Responsibilities:None. Working Conditions:Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent district wide travel. |
