Primary Purpose:
  Install, setup, and monitor local wide area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN). Perform a variety of administration, maintenance, evaluation, installation, and training tasks to ensure maximum performance and availability for our users.
Qualifications:
  Education/Certification:
  High school diploma or GED
Certified Novell Engineer (CNE) and Novell Certified Engineer (NCE) required
  Special Knowledge/Skills:
 

Knowledge of computer networking systems, languages and designs to include Novell, Linux, UNIX, and Microsoft.
Knowledge of computing and network hardware and peripheral equipment.
Priority: highly developed verbal and written communication skills
Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
Ability to learn and support new systems and applications.
Ability to negotiate hardware/software service and technical support contracts with vendors.
Ability to manage multiple projects, activities and tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines.

  Experience:
  3+ work experience installing, maintaining, and repairing Novell Networks and peripherals
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  Management and Installation:
 
  1. Network administration (including backup, security management, user account management, e-mail systems including e-mail web server, internet access, anti-virus, print services, routers, switch, PIX,office systems and applications support).
  2. Supports server, network and desktop hardware, software and applications.
  3. Performs technology needs analysis.
  4. Rolls out hardware and software to ensure optimal deployment of resources.
  5. Plans, implements, and supports the network and computing infrastructure plan.
  6. Manages projects according to agreed upon budgets and schedules.
  7. Oversee planning and implementation of system installations.
  8. Assists with the inventory management of software licenses, software, hardware, and other IT supplies.
  Equipment Repair and Maintenance:
 

      9. Diagnose and repair network equipment.
    10. Service equipment according to established preventive maintenance schedule.
    11. Maintain accurate updated records of preventive maintenance and network
          inventory.
    12. Maintain accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and
          service.

  Safety:
 

    13. Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures.
    14.  Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including
           lifting, climbing and carrying.
    15. Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not
           correctable to the supervisor immediately.

  Other:
 

   16. Answer trouble calls/emails and enters work orders into our tracking software.
   17. Orientation and training of new staff.
   18. Supervising, coaching, and mentoring of network team
   19. Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
   20. Implement the design of WAN and LAN services for the district.
   21. Maintain network documentation.
   22. Diagnose and analyze network traffic and make recommendations for network design
         and scaleable implementation.
   23. Recommend hardware and network solutions for existing facilities and new buildings.
   24. Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not
         correctable to the supervisor immediately.
   25. Other duties assigned.

Equipment Used:
  Hand tools and test instruments for electronic repairs and cable installations. Personal computers and peripherals, including modems and printers.
Working Conditions:
  Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
  Climbing, stooping, bending, and kneeling; frequent use of small hand tools and electronic test equipment; frequent district-wide travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. May be required to be on-call 24 hours a day.
