District student-run radio station studio grand opening event

99.9 The Wild Mansfield ISD's official radio station, 99.9 The Wild, will hold a grand opening event for its new studio location on Wednesday, September 22 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM inside the Ben Barber Career Tech Academy.

The 2010-2011 staff of The Wild will debut a preview of their live programming. Student radio programs including The Morning Breath, The Ruckus, Minority Report,  and the Wayward Show will debut for the first time featuring students from all five MISD high schools.  The Sports Broadcasting students will also debut a brand new show, Sports 101, during the evening as well.

“All are invited to come and go as they please and help us break in the new studio,” said Justin Dearing, Radio and Sports Broadcasting Instructor.

“We want to show off the hard work of our students over the past several years. The grand opening will not only feature the new programming schedule for 2010-2011 but also will feature interviews with former students who are coming back to update us on where they are now.”

About 99.9 The Wild

The radio station can be heard on FM station 99.9 on campus and around the BBCTA parking lot. The station streams online on Ustream.

The station was established in the Spring of 2005 coinciding with the opening of Ben Barber Career Tech Academy. At the time, teacher started from scratch and created the curriculum and TEKS to get the course approved by the Texas Education Agency. Nothing was available for high school level courses at the time.
