2010 Mansfield ISD Campus Holiday Charity List

[December 8, 2010]

The following is a list of campus holiday charity campaigns in the Mansfield ISD. Check out the charity drives and plans from the high schools, middle schools, intermediate schools, elementary schools and even departments.

Additional information will be added as more campuses respond to the call for information. Note: It was necessary to post this information now as much of it is time-sensitive.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from Mansfield ISD.

High Schools

Ben Barber Career Tech Academy
Auto Tech is collecting bicycles and money for the “Bikes for Angels” program. In 2009 the Auto Tech Department raised $19,700 and collected 461 bikes for donation. In 2010, the goal is 600 bikes, so far they have collected $17,000 and have 310 bikes currently. They will have the big presentation on December 14 at 10:00 a.m., in the Auto Tech Department, and will begin delivering on December 15.

Frontier High School
StuCo is doing a clothing drive for the Clothes closet, and also partnering with DECA for Bisbee Missions. According to teacher Cathy Slagle, the team is sponsoring the Ben Barber/Frontier Food Drive for the area Food Banks.

“We are working to inspire the other teachers, students, organizations and business community to participate,” said Slagle. “We have created a contest to encourage participation and awards. It is over on December 14th. Our team started this in an effort to have a collaborative lesson for TAKS. Mike O’Neil’s students will build a structure out of the cans, Mikki Castor’s math students will measure and determine the volume, John Tarrant’s students are creating a video and commercial, Shyly Vire’s students are creating a video game about filling cans and making a Trophy, Kristi Cawthon’s students are helping collect the cans and my students created the Marketing Strategies to attract the needed participation.”

Mansfield High School
The freshman class is hosting a Christmas Jean Drive to be donated to the MISD Council PTA Clothes Closet. This has started and goes until December 16.

Each year, MHS Key Club asks students and teachers to ‘adopt’ a child for Christmas, and their campus always steps up. Key Club is proud to note that MHS has adopted over 80 children from their community this year alone. Those adopting are given the child’s clothing sizes and wish list and asked to make their holiday a little happier by purchasing new clothes and gifts/toys for them.

Mansfield HS students give their time and money to spread the joy of Christmas throughout our community.

Legacy High School
Legacy High School Cheerleaders are participating in a snack drive and paper drive for the Ronald McDonald House in Fort Worth this month and next month they will be providing them with a “Meal from the Heart.” At Legacy High School all students involved in Sports are ‘teaming up’ to collect Jeans and Coats for the MISD Clothes Closet. They will deliver the collections on Monday, December 13.

The Legacy Tennis Team is also involved in the “Adopt a Child Program” for Christmas.
