The Mansfield ISD will partner with parents to meet our students’ needs with regard to President Obama’s speech to school children.

All campuses will show President Obama’s speech live to students whose parents approve. Parents can give their students permission to view the speech live at school by signing a permission slip and returning it to the school by Friday, September 10, 2010.

Questions/Answers:

What happens if a student does not have a signed permission slip?
Students who do not bring the signed permission slip will not be allowed to view the speech live.

Where do I get a permission slip for my student?
The permission slips will be available on the MISD website and at each campus.

Will teachers show the speech in the classrooms?
No individual classroom teacher will show the speech live in his or her classroom.

What if my student stays home to watch the speech? What about make up work?
Students who are absent from school to view the speech at an off-campus location will be given an excused absence and allowed to make up any work that is missed for that day. However, the absence will count against exemptions, perfect attendance, etc.

If students view the speech on campus, they will be able to make up any class work that they miss.

Will the speech be shown to students later?
With the approval of the campus principal, classroom teachers may use all of or portions of the speech in their classrooms at a later date if the material is consistent with the TEKS for that subject.
