The Mansfield ISD School Board named the new principal for Cross Timbers Intermediate School and approved the construction contract for the Center for the Performing Arts at their June meeting.

On Tuesday, June 22, the school board approved the principal assignment for Holly McCanlies at Cross Timbers Intermediate School. Holly McCanlies has been the Associate Principal at Haltom High School in the Birdville ISD since 2007. Prior to that she was a counselor and English teacher at Haltom HS as well as Sixth Grade Reading/Language Arts teacher at Haltom Middle School.
“Everything that is noble and magical about education is personified at Cross Timbers Intermediate,” said McCanlies on her new assignment.
“It is my distinct honor to join that amazing staff where I'll work tirelessly to achieve excellence every day!”
Holly McCanlies assumes the campus leadership position following the retirement of Cross Timbers principal Gerald Kokenes at the end of the school year after fourteen years of dedicated service in education.
MISD Center for the Performing Arts
Also at the June meeting, the Board approved awarding the contract agreement to Thos. S. Byrne Construction Services for the MISD Center for the Performing Arts, in the amount of $40.4 million. The plans are for construction to begin later this month and complete early Spring 2012.

New Board Member and Officers
The MISD School Board also welcomed a new trustee with the swearing in of Raul Gonzalez. Gonzalez won a runoff election and assumed Place 4 left vacant after 12-year board veteran, Dan Phillips chose not to run again. Trustees took turns thanking Phillips for his dedication and service to MISD and then voted on new Board Officers. The newly elected board officers are Sandra Vatthauer, President; Beth Light, Vice President; and Dr. Michael Evans, Secretary.
