Mansfield ISD is proud to congratulate seven students from Ben Barber Career Tech Academy for competing at the SkillsUSA National Competition in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Radio Broadcasting students were assigned a 60-second commercial for the Kansas City Jazz Museum. They were given three hours on the first day of competition to record everything they needed for the the production. On the second day they were given four hours to edit a complete 60-second commercial. They were also required to take a technical test while they were there. They competed against 18 other teams of two from different states. Armenta and Solis placed first by a wide margin and won the first Skills USA National Championship in Ben Barber's History.
The Construction Teamworks students places 12th in a contest where they had to construct, wire, plumb and brick a laundry room from the ground up. They were in competition from eight hours a day for three days. This is a very demanding competition.
Alex Romans competed in the Technical Computer Applications contest and placed 14th in the nation. He was required to write a business plan and defend it as well as work through different scenarios for the business with data supplied by the contest coordinators.
There are over 300,000 students nationwide that participate in SkillsUSA and only 5,200 qualified for the National Competition.
The MISD students also visited the College Basketball Hall of Fame, Narnia Museum, and the World War I Museum while in Kansas City.
