The Mansfield ISD community is stunned and deeply saddened today by the tragic loss of former superintendent, Mr. Vernon Newsom.
Mr. Newsom, who recently retired from the District, died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident while vacationing in South Dakota with his wife.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Newsom's family during this difficult time.
Vernon Newsom served as the superintendent of the Mansfield ISD from 1996 to June of 2009. In that time, the district grew from one high school to four. The district also opened the Ben Barber Career Tech Academy, and 23 other school facilities. He oversaw the creation of the Mansfield ISD Education Foundation, which raises funds to support innovative education projects in the district.

Visitation & Funeral Services for Mr. Newsom
The visitation was held on Monday, July 27
at First Baptist Church in Mansfield
The funeral service was held Tuesday, July 28 at 11:00 a.m.

Update: At the request of the family and friends who were unable to attend, we provided a live video feed from the funeral.
MISD was closed from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28.
Memorials
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a scholarship fund for Mr. Newsom's granddaughters. For those that knew Mr. Newsom, his granddaughters were the light of his life and this is a great tribute to his love for them.
Frost Bank contributions - Make the check out to Frost Bank. On the memo line put "for Vernon Newsom Scholarship Fund" and Acct #822053438. You can also put "For Deposit Only" and the same account number on the back of the check.
