The Mansfield ISD and Mansfield Summit High School family is mourning the loss of one its students. Sophomore Dozie Njeako collapsed during the JV football game on Thursday, September 6, and later died at the hospital.
Trainers from both teams attempted to revive the player using CPR and an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) while in communication with emergency services.
This is a tragic loss for Mansfield Summit and the district.
"Please remember his family, teammates, coaches, trainers, teachers and friends in your thoughts and prayers," says Mr. Vernon Newsom district Superintendent.
On Friday, Septemebr 7 additional counselors were made available at the high school throughout the day for those students who needed additional comfort.
Updated Monday, September 10, 9:40 AM - The wake for Dozie Njeako will be Monday, September 10th, from 6:00-8;00 PM
at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1188 W. Broad Street in Mansfield.
The funeral will be Tuesday, September 11th, at 3pm
at Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Updated Monday, September 10, 9:10 AM - A Candle Light Vigil was held Friday, September 7 at Summit High School in front of the Performing Arts Center. Attendees were asked to wear blue to coincide with Summit High School colors.
