Katie Noel of Cora Spencer Elementary was awarded the Mansfield ISD Heartbeat Award on Thursday, October 11. District Superintendent Vernon Newsom surprised Noel with the award, a shirt and a cookie bouquet.
Noel, pictured at right, consistently demonstrates her commitment to the students and takes great pride in their individual successes.
The summer before Spencer Elementary opened (fall 2006), Noel made home visits to some students as a way for the campus to get to know the students. She has also made herself available in waiting rooms for some parents and students who were hospitalized, doing what she could to comfort families.
She often can be found covering teacher's lunch or recess duties in order to allow the classroom teacher extra time with their struggling students. Noel also spends an immense amount of time creating encouraging behavior intervention plans to allow students to be successful in the classroom.
“I feel very blessed to work with a wonderful staff,” says Noel. “I believe the foundation of student success begins with teaching children that they are valuable and cared for. If students don't know that they are cared about it can impede their academics, behavior, and social interactions. Words can not express the joy I feel as the kids I work with begin to blossom!”
