Arelius Willis of T.A. Howard Middle School was awarded the Mansfield ISD Heartbeat Award on Tuesday, November 13. District Superintendent Vernon Newsom surprised Willis with the award, a shirt and a cookie bouquet in front of a group of students in the campus library.
According to nominations, Arelius Willis is an inspirational member of the T.A. Howard staff. Willis is the campus' male day-time custodian and at times gets pulled from many directions during the day and he always completes the tasks with a positive attitude. One nomination detailed a time when Arelius stopped what he was doing in the school to go help a parent change a flat tire. Another nomination mentioned his help when a co-worker was moving and he provided boxes without ever being asked. He helps out in any way he can from moving things, to changing light bulbs to filling the copy room with paper. This are just a few of the selfless acts that Arelius does for the school. He truly exemplifies teamwork and community.
When asked what he thought about the recognition in the school library, Arelius replied with a smile, “I thought someone needed some tables moved.”
