The Texas Education Agency released its 2006-2007 Gold Performance Acknowledgments (GPA). Mansfield ISD has 80.6 percent of campuses, or 25 of 31 campuses, that earned one or more Gold Performance Acknowledgments.
The Gold Performance Acknowledgment recognizes districts and campuses for high academic performance on various indicators, such as commended performance on Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS), college admissions test and Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate (AP/IB) exams. There are 12 different categories in which a GPA can be earned at the district level and 14 different categories at the campus level.
At the district level, Mansfield ISD received Gold Performance Acknowledgments in Reading. This means that at least 25% of MISD students who took the Reading TAKS test scored at the commended level of performance with a scale score at or above 2400. Cross Timbers Intermediate School received the Gold Performance Acknowledgment in ALL areas including “comparable improvement” in Math and Reading.
In 2001, the Texas Legislature enacted the Gold Performance Acknowledgment system to recognize campuses with high performance on indicators other than those that affect accountability ratings. Comparable Improvement (CI) indicators were added last year. These are campus-only acknowledgments that compare a school’s performance to a group of 40 similar schools. In 2006, campuses were acknowledged if 20% or more of the students met the commended performance level. In 2007, the standard was raised to 25% making it a greater challenge for campuses to receive the Gold Performance Acknowledgment.
Elementary/Intermediate Schools
Elementary schools can earn acknowledgments for attendance and commended performance in reading/ELA, writing, math, and science and comparable improvement in reading and math. To earn GPAs for academic areas, a school must have 25 percent or more of its students in each student group scoring at or above the TAKS commended performance level.

For high schools, in addition to attendance, TAKS commended performance areas, and comparable improvement, GPAs may be awarded for advanced course completion, Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate results, SAT/ACT college admissions test results and recommended high school program participation. Replacing TAAS/TASP equivalency indicators are Texas Success Initiatives (TSI) college readiness indicators in English language arts and math.
