[November 12, 2007] MISD recognized by EPA as Energy Star Leader |
Mansfield ISD was recently named as an Energy Star Leader for leadership in improving the average energy performance rating district-wide and reducing greenhouse gas emissions through superior energy management.
MISD began its energy management program in the summer of 2005. By May, 2006 the district had completed benchmarking, data analysis, retro commissioning and the identification of energy conservation opportunities. The Facilities Department began implementing the energy savings measures that were found in June, 2006. May 31, 2007 marked the end of the first 12 month period since the implementation process began.
During that 12-month period, the district had 23 of its then 33 eligible sites win the Energy Star Building Label. At the anniversary of the first full year of conservation activity, the district was notified by the EPA for succeeding in its reduction in adjusted energy consumption by 10%.
The environmental impact of this reduction is the equivalent of the reduction of over 8,000 tons in CO2 emissions. The financial impact has been avoided energy costs of an average of nearly $45,000 per month. Because of these accomplishments Mansfield I.S.D. is being recognized by the EPA as an Energy Star leader. |
