Kindness and Empathy taught here:
180 Teddy bears are on their way to help make kids feel better.
From February 1-14, the seven kindergarten classes at Roberta Tipps Elementary School took part in a teddy bear drive for Cook Children's Hospital of Fort Worth. The students collected new teddy bears and other kinds of stuffed animals to be given out to children that are staying in the hospital by the Pastoral Care staff. The kindergarten classes set a goal of 10 stuffed animals per class and graphed their progress in the hall, as well, as letting each child who donates a teddy bear, write his/her name on a teddy to add to the “bear cave” that is in the hall.
On Friday, February 15, the drive ended with a teddy bear sleep over day at school. The students came to school in their pajamas and brought their favorite teddy to spend the day with them. The students participated in special teddy bear activities and allowed the teddy bears only to spend the night at school.
At 1:30 PM, in the Tipps library, Dr. Ann Miller, director of Pastoral Care for Cook Children's, was on hand to receive the collected bears and say a special thank you to the kindergarten students.
“We did this drive in conjunction with Valentine's Day because this is the time of the year that we focus on caring for others,” said kindergarten teacher, Jennifer Redmond. “We are hoping that this service project will help our little ones see the need to care for others that are not just in our classroom or school. We hope to raise their awareness and empathy.” |
