[February 11, 2008] Summit student's logo places 5th in statewide program

logo designAustin, TX - A Summit High School sophomore student's logo design placed 5th in the state's $100 Million Drive a Clean Machine Program.

Murphy La, pictured at right with his design, was one of ten high school student artists from across Texas gathered February 5th in Austin along with their families and teacher sponsors for the Drive a Clean Machine Logo Contest awards ceremony hosted by state Sen. Kip Averitt (R-Waco), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources.

The Drive a Clean Machine Logo Contest invited public, private and home-schooled students in grades 9-12 to design a logo for the state's Drive a Clean Machine program. This program seeks to bring non-attainment areas back into compliance with federal environmental guidelines by partnering with qualifying Texans who want to purchase a new car and help clean-up our air. Clean air is a major source of concern for all Texans, and mobile emissions produced by old cars are the primary source of NOx (the pollutant we must reduce to meet federal ozone standards) in our state's non-attainment areas.
