| Elementary students learn ways to keep their hearts healthy while raising awareness and funds for the American Heart Association.
Almost all of the 19 Mansfield ISD elementary schools and one intermediate school are taking part in the 2007-2008 Jump Rope For Heart education and fund-raising campaign of the American Heart Association.
On Monday, February 25, Stephanie Milligan, Youth Market Director for the American Heart Association held presentations at J.L. Boren Elementary School as that school's campaign comes to a close this week. The presentations included a special demonstration by the Willie Brown Elementary School's Jump Rope Team and a showcasing of the thank-you gifts that students earn by gathering donations.
Last year, J.L. Boren Elementary students raised over $22,000 the the Jump Rope for Heart campaign.
“We are proud of our campuses that have taken the lead by using this campaign to educate our students on the importance of heart health as well as giving back to the community,” says Dr. Sarah Jandrucko, Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education. “We are proud to participate with the American Heart Association in their efforts.”
More About Jump Rope For Heart
Jump Rope For Heart is a national educational fund-raising program that is sponsored by the American Heart Association and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD).
This program engages elementary students in a physical activity (jumping rope) while raising funds to support lifesaving heart and stroke research. Students ask friends and family for donations and receive thank-you gifts based on the dollars they raise. This educational program teaches physical fitness and promotes the value of community service to students and their families. It shows students that they can contribute to their community's welfare. |
