MANSFIELD, TX – Visitors at all Mansfield ISD campuses will now have their driver’s licenses scanned before going into classrooms and lunchrooms. Beginning fall 2007, all district schools will use the RaptorWare® system called V-Soft®, a new sign-in system that will help increase security at their campuses. The new V-Soft system scans a visitor’s driver’s license, matches the information against registered sex offender databases, and then prints out a photo identification badge. The process takes about 30 seconds.
“The system makes it easier to track who is on our campus at all times,” says district spokesperson Terry Morawski. “It basically replaces the old sign-in sheet.”
When visitors are ready to leave, they must sign out on the system. Administrators can use the system to pull up reports showing who is on their campuses during the day and to track visitors.
If a visitor is a registered sex offender, “the system automatically sends an alert to the administrator, the principal, and the district police,” says Morawski. “Once we know there is a registered sex offender on a campus, it allows us to control and limit their access.”
Some registered sex offenders may be parents of students on a particular campus and have parental rights to see their students. The V-Soft system allows staff to strictly control these parents’ access to all other students. “We can either bring their child to the front office, or we can send an employee with the person during their visit, so that they are never unaccompanied while on our campus,” explains Morawski.
