The Mansfield ISD Destination ImagiNation team of Mary Jo Sheppard Elementary advanced to the organization's international creative problem-solving tournament this past weekend.
The Global Finals will be held in Knoxville, Tennessee at the University of Tennessee campus on May 21 - 24, 2008. Supercalifragilisticexpalidocious, the Sheppard Elementary team, won the right to compete at this level when they placed third at the state competition in Austin on April 4 & 5.
Their winning challenge was in the "Obstacles, Of Course!" category. In this challenge, the team displayed a handcrafted self-propelled remote control vehicle through an intricate obstacle course while performing a theatrical presentation at the same time. The performance had to be nonverbal and integrate the theme of overcoming obstacles. This seven member team will now have the opportunity to compete with over 900 teams from six different nations.
“It’s been a fun, tough, exciting and rewarding time for these kids as they worked their way through several levels of competition to win a spot at the Global Tournament,” said Hope Hutchison, Greater Fort Worth regional board member for Mansfield ISD. “They are proud of their accomplishments, and they should be, because the competition leading to the Tournament is fierce.”
