At this weeks board meeting, the district named two new schools and one facility.
The elementary school opening fall of 2007 at the
corner of Ledbetter and Harris roads in Arlington, is
now named Carol Holt Elementary
School. Carol Holt taught for 26 years, and 21 of those years were spent with Mansfield ISD. She taught resource classes first through fifth grade, special education and was an assistant principal. Most importantly, Carol was the principal of Charlotte Anderson Elementary School. During her leadership, Anderson became the first school to be named Exemplary in the District. Carol Holt retired from the district in 1999.
The elementary school opening fall
of 2008 known as the Magna Carta site in Grand
Prairie, is now named Louise
Cabaniss Elementary School. Mary L. "Louise" Cabaniss taught fifth grade for 19 years at Erma Nash Elementary School. Louise was a Mansfield High School Alumni. According to her sister Iva Louise, Louise's students were her children. She was known for her stern and challenging teaching skills. Louise retired from the district in 1976, and passed away in 1994 at the age of 87.
In addition to the
two
new schools, the school board named the Danny
Griffin Operations Complex. Danny Griffin worked for Mansfield ISD as a bus driver for 20 years. He was a role model for other school bus drivers. Those who knew him described Danny as unselfish, loyal, dependable and compassionate. Danny and his wife, Verna, were the first husband and wife special needs driving team in MISD. Danny was also the pastor of Walnut Creek Church of God for 21 years. Danny worked for the district until 2003, when his lost his battle with cancer.
