 A collaborative effort among thirteen of MISD's elementary schools helped create a published book written by students and staff.
The book entitled Fabulous Fables is a compiled collection of thirteen different stories using the schools' mascots to teach morals.
Each elementary school asked the students to participate in a writing contest to write a fable. Once each school chose a winner, over 600 students worked together to help determine a final product. Teachers and principals felt that by asking students to participate in writing a fable, they would be helping the students learn an ultimate moral of the story.
"Education is only one part 'book smart,'" said Janet Brocket Elementary school principal Chuck Roe. "I’ve been in education for a while and most of what I see in the office has nothing to do with academic needs. It all has to do with the lessons that don’t necessarily come from textbooks."
Each book is for sale for $15.95, and proceeds benefit the participating schools.

On the back of the book, each student’s name is listed.
Vuthy Kuon helped publish Fabulous Fables as well as create the elaborate illustrations.
