On Thursday, May 17, Savvy's Bistro held its dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony for a select group of MISD students, staff, and community members.
Students from the Culinary Arts program along with MISD and campus administrators dedicated the classroom/Bistro space with family members of Konye Rice.
At the end of the 2005-2006 school year, culinary arts student and senior Konye Rice lost her life in a car accident one week before graduation. The culinary arts program students chose to use her final project's design and name for the bistro as their way honor her memory.
The name Savvy originates from the name Savannah, which Rice named after her niece.
Located in Ben Barber Career Tech Academy, Savvy's Bistro is the product of the Culinary Arts Program where students learn different types of cooking methods, restaurant management, food safety among other essentials for running their restaurant.
The dedication brings Savvy's one step closer to the fall 2007 public opening of the Bistro for lunch Tuesdays through Thursdays. |
