 Mansfield ISD will host the district's first Special Olympic Invitational Swim Meet at the MISD Natatorium on Saturday, June 23, 2007.
Opening ceremonies start at 8:30 AM. Competition begins at 9:00 AM and is expected to end between 1:00 and 2:00 PM. Swim teams from Arlington ISD, Waxahachie ISD, Venus ISD and local community teams will participate with Mansfield ISD in events such as the 10 meter assisted swim up to the 200 meter freestyle swim. Students ranging from middle school level and up get the chance to qualify for the state swim meet in October.
"This is a great opportunity for the athletes to shine," said Joan Hart the head coach for the MISD All Stars Swim Team. "When we stop swimming in October, the athletes constantly ask me when we are going to swim again."
Previously, the 20-student team practiced at the local YMCA pool using three swim lanes. Within the past year, the swim team has doubled. Fortunately students are able to practice twice a week at the new MISD Natatorium.
