Starting fall 2007, the Mansfield ISD high school students will experience a new A/B block schedule.
For the past several months, MISD high school principals reviewed district academic data, which indicated a needed change in the district's instructional process. The best and agreed upon result was an A/B block schedule. An A/B block schedule will consist of four 90-minute classes per day on alternating days. Similar to most college schedules, students will attend four classes on their A day, and another set of four classes on their B day. By having class on alternating days, students who need help with their homework will have an extra day to contact their teacher. In addition, the schedule will create space for students to take more interesting classes or electives. Fine Arts, Athletics, ROTC, and other academic classes will be double blocked. For seniors who wish to graduate early in fall 2007, they will be able to take TCC classes or an accelerated English class.
Currently the district uses an accelerated block schedule, where each semester is nine weeks with four 90-minute classes a day.
For more information, the district will hold three informational meetings. All three meetings are open to any parent with questions.
