Newsletter | February 2008
Hello, or Ni Hao! I’m not sure where the month of February has blown off too though we did enjoy our Chinese New Year unit with the lucky dragons. Wow, time really does fly when you are having fun.
The PreK classroom is moving forward on their reading readiness, letters and colors activities. These are areas that we have gradually added into the classroom since August. The teachers have set up reading, writing, and math centers as a daily part of Work Time. Now they are preparing your children for “ Big School ” and are stepping up the pace. We will be very sad to send these Pre-Kindergarteners on to school. Many of these children came to us at the tender age of two and were pioneers with the rest of us in establishing the MISD Children’s Center.
Thank you to those parents that are Kindergarten teachers for your input. If you have more feedback for us we are ready and willing to implement your suggestions. The teachers and I want to thank Amy Cunningham (Mason’s Mom) who did a personalized “Literacy and Phonemic Awareness” training for Ms. Lisa and Ms. Melanie in November. It is one of our valued resources to have trained professionals as MISD Children’s Center parents.
Has your child been practicing their Spanish on you yet? Ms. Lisa teaches numbers, colors, body parts, clothing, animals, etc. in Spanish. However, she teaches the Hello Song in several languages. If you haven’t stayed long enough to hear Ms. Melanie do story time with your children you are missing a great show. A good time is had by everyone I can assure you. Ask the teacher’s to do the rocking “Big Bad Wolf” song for you some afternoon. We have some budding American Idols right here in Mansfield . Who knew?
The Two’s/Three’s classroom is moving through units on the Stock Show, Community Helpers, Dental Health and Dinosaurs. Now that we have all two year olds and some brand new three year olds the socialization skills are easier to follow through on. The more language they have the more reasonable they can be with each other…in theory any way! Ms. Karen and Ms. Amparo have created a wonderful teaching team and the “Little Guys” love them both.
Very soon I will be asking you that all important question regarding enrollment for the 2008-2009 school year. Currently enrolled children will have the first chance for the limited childcare spaces with an April 30 th deadline for your answers. Starting May 1 st I will open the Waiting List and fill the extra spaces for fall.
Zai Jian! And thank you for being such great parents to work with!
Ms. Sherry
