Control
of Communicable Diseases |

The
Board shall expect that the control of communicable diseases in
the District's schools be in conformity to the applicable sections
of the "Sanitary Code of Texas." The rules of the code
provide for the promotion of protection of the public health; for
the general reduction of infectious and contagious diseases; and
for the proper enforcement of quarantine, isolation, and control
of communicable diseases. The school nurse or health assistant may
exclude from school any student suspected of having a communicable
disease.

Exclusion
from school during illness: Pupils suffering from diseases
listed below shall be readmitted on the certificate of the attending
physician attesting to the recovery and non-infectiousness of the
student:

Diphtheria
• Infectious Hepatitis Meningitis
• Poliomyelitis
• Scarlet Fever
• Tuberculosis
• Typhoid Fever |

| Exclusion
from school during illness of minor disease: Pupils suffering
from minor diseases listed below shall be excluded from school during
such illness and shall be readmitted when free of symptoms:

The
school nurse or health assistant may exclude any student suspected
of having a communicable disease. Students should be symptom and
fever free (temperature lower than 100o) for 24 hours before returning
to school. Hand washing is the single most important way
to reduce the spread of infectious diseases in the school setting.
