Identified
Gifted and Talented students will be served on their home
campus. Mansfield ISD's Gifted Education Program has the ability
to serve identified students in the four core academic areas,
the arts, leadership, and creativity.
Kindergarten
Kindergarten students will be screened and selected for the
Gifted and Talented (G/T) program by the end of the first
semester. Service will begin no later than March 1. Identified
kindergarten students will remain in their original classes
and will be served through instructional activities appropriate
for G/T students at this level.
Grades
1 - 4 Cluster Classes
Identified G/T students will be grouped together for services.
Heterogeneous grouping may occur in this setting. Clustered
students will be served a minimum of 2 ½ hours per
week. Teachers will use G/T appropriate material/strategies
with students during this time.
Grades 5 - 6 ACCEL Teams
The intermediate school is arranged in teams. At least one
of these teams on each campus will be designated for identified
gifted and talented students. These students will be served
through accelerated studies.
Grades
7 - 8 Accelerated Course Offerings and Pre-AP Classes
The middle school is arranged in teams. At least one team
on each campus will be designated for identified gifted and
talented students. These students will have the opportunity
to be served through Pre-AP classes and accelerated course
offerings. Existing entrance requirements for these classes
shall be superseded by gifted and talented student identification.
Grades
9 - 12 Pre-AP, Advanced Placement Classes, and Concurrent
Enrollment
Advanced Placement Courses (AP and Pre-AP) are available to
gifted and talented students. Existing entrance requirements
for these classes shall be superseded by gifted and talented
identification. Concurrent enrollment in area colleges is
also available, as well as independent studies and acceleration
through Credit by Exam. |
