What is Dyslexia?
Dyslexia is a specific language-based disorder of constitutional origin which results in difficulty in learning to read, write or spell, despite conventional instruction, adequate intelligence and social-cultural opportunity.
Serving the dyslexic student
Mansfield ISD provides a program for all students with dyslexic tendencies. Each student is served by a trained reading specialist on the home campus. The MISD Dyslexia Program includes the components of phonemic awareness, graphophonemic knowledge, language structure and linguistic patterns and processes.
The instructional strategies utilize explicit, individualized, intensive, multisensory phonetic methods and a variety of writing and spelling components to meet the specific learning needs of each individual student.
Instruction is organized and presented in a way that follows a logical, sequential plan and proceeds at a rate commensurate with each student's needs, ability level, and demonstration of progress.
