Going Green

E3 is the designation and initiative for the Mansfield Independent School District representing our commitment to energy efficiency in our educational process.

Through this commitment and innovative energy saving ideas, the district is working to make energy conservation a permanent part of our culture.

By the end of the school year 2007-08, energy management and conservation efforts for 42 facilities had exceeded a savings of over $3.07 million in cost avoidance.

EPA Names MISD Energy Star Top Performer

Energy Update
For the 12 months ending in August 2008 the district has a rating of 85 out of 100, with a 8.9% reduction in energy usage.

MISD has 24 'Green Buildings'
Twenty-four MISD buildings have been recognized through the EPA's Energy Star program for energy savings reduction. See the list of buildings.

MISD achieves "Energy Star Leader" status
MISD has achieved a 10% improvement in Adjusted Energy Consumption for the eligible facilities in our district. This achievement demonstrates our commitment to environmental protection through superior energy performance.

Five Schools 2008 Energy Star Award
At the October School Board meeting, five schools will be recognized for earning the Energy Star Award: Coble Middle, Howard Middle, Lillard Intermediate, Reid Elementary, Davis Elementary.

Seven District Buildings Earn E3 Award
Seven Mansfield ISD buildings have earned the Energy Efficient Education (E3) Award Recognition for meeting a district mandated 15% reduction in energy consumption. Those sites are:

  • Wester Middle 17.4% Reduction
  • Anderson Elementary 20.9% Reduction
  • Boren Elementary 19.1% Reduction
  • Nash Elementary 17.5% Reduction
  • Gideon Elementary 17.9% Reduction
  • RL Anderson Complex 30.4% Reduction
What is MISD doing?

We have established District-Wide Utility Management Standards

To establish a framework of procedures which will serve to help MISD to minimize the cost of energy by insuring energy efficient operations throughout the district

Energy-efficient operation means operating an energy consuming device so that it uses only as much energy as necessary to fulfill its intended function. The primary objective of an effective Utility Management plan is to eliminate or minimize energy waste and control cost while maintaining a comfortable and safe environment.

What buildings are eligible to earn the Energy Star?

"Buildings that rate in the top 25 percent of energy-efficient buildings in the nation may qualify for the ENERGY STAR. Many types of commercial and industrial buildings can be rated based on a comparison of energy use with other, similar types of buildings." ENERGY STAR

Is E3 different
from Energy Star?

Yes, E3 is a designation and initiative for the Mansfield ISD to recognize those sites (campus and other district facilities) that meet or exceed the 15% reduction in energy consumption.
