Mansfield ISD student performance up as state ratings are released

[August 1, 2011]

2010 Accountability RatingsMANSFIELD, TX – The continuing efforts from our teachers and students resulted in achievement gains in 2010-11. The state accountability ratings were released by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) on Friday, July 29.

District Performance:

Mansfield ISD
2011 % Passing rates for All Students
93%
Reading/ELA - minimum of 70%
86%
Math - minimum of 65%
95%
Writing - minimum of 70%
96%
Social Studies - minimum of 70%
83%
Science - minimum of 60%

“We applaud the teachers and students on their efforts and are proud of the increases being made in student performance,” said Dr. Bob Morrison, Superintendent of Schools.

“While the state standards for accountability are a moving target, our focus is on our commitment to quality instruction. Campus academic improvements are a direct result of the overall hard work, dedication, and focus in MISD. I am pleased with our progress, but recognize we have areas for improvement.”

Campus Improvements:

  • 54% of MISD campuses remained above 95% passing or exceeded last year's performance in Reading for All Students.
  • 59% of MISD campuses remained above 95% passing or exceeded last year's performance in Math for All Students.
  • 40% of MISD campuses exceeded last year's performance in Science for All Students.

As with all Texas school districts, the MISD ratings reflect a challenging state accountability environment that changed significantly between 2010 and 2011. Ratings were impacted by:

  • Rising performance standards in Math and Science
  • New tested content in Science
  • The elimination of the Texas Projection Measure (TPM)
  • The inclusion of commended students criteria
  • The inclusion of all scores from Special Education
  • The addition of an English Language Learner Progress Measure (ELL)

About the 2011 Texas Accountability System

  • This is the 8th and final year of the current assessment system
  • There are several significant differences between 2010 and 2011 as noted above.
  • This year there are 40 indicators that determine ratings
  • Across Texas, more students are passing the TAKS tests and graduating from high school than eight years ago.
