Mansfield ISD is proud to recognize Roberta Tipps Elementary for being named to the Texas Business & Education Coalition (TBEC) 2010 Honor Roll.
“The staff at Roberta Tipps is truly humbled to receive this honor for a third time,” said principal, Elna Davis.
“The teachers, parents, and students want to be pushed further each year as they continue down the path of life long learning. Our campus has become a community center that actively engages the community in learning activities ranging from a pre-K story/literacy hour all the way to chess club and destination imagination. All of the efforts of the community stakeholders involved in our campus events, hard work of the teachers, willingness of the students to learn and the consistent support of MISD combine in a special harmony that allow us to continue to add relevance and meaning to the lives of those we touch in the community.”
“[For Tipps] it is also a recognition of our continuing ability to raise the bar each year and see the positive contributions that we are able to make to our district and state, ”says Elna Davis.
 TBEC identifies Honor Roll schools by analyzing three years of performance data for every public school in Texas. A TBEC Honor Roll school must have a high percentage of students meeting state standards on every TAKS test for three consecutive years. That's the easy part; TBEC Honor Roll schools also have the highest percentage of students performing at the state's most rigorous standard -commended- in every subject. The selection criteria also considers the school's demographics, number of subjects tested and grade levels. Compared to other schools with similar demographics, TBEC honor Roll schools have demonstrated the highest levels of academic achievement year after year.
Being named a TBEC Honor Roll school is the most prestigious academic award given in Texas. As TBEC's former Board Chairman, Jack Lowe puts it, “Schools get on our honor roll the old fashioned way; they earn it.”
Tipps Elementary will be recognized at an upcoming School Board Meeting and will be honored at TBEC's 11th Annual Honor Roll Schools Celebration on November 15, 2010 at the Hilton Austin Hotel, 500 East 4th Street, Austin, Texas.
