Timberview's Teen Leadership teacher named to Heartbeat Team

[November 11, 2010]

HeartbeatHeather Mills, the Teen Leadership teacher and Student Council sponsor at Mansfield Timberview High School, received the November 2010 MISD Heartbeat Team Award. Ms. Mills was chosen for her seemingly tireless drive to encourage and inspire the students at Timberview.

District Superintendent Dr. Bob Morrison, along with Timberview principal Mr. Derrell Douglas, surprised Heather inside her Teen Leadership class on Wednesday, November 10.

“Ms. Mills gives so much of herself to this school,” said Timberview principal, Mr. Derrell Douglas. “She's a part of the soul of Timberview. She makes a big difference of what the school is outside ofthe academics.”

“I feel honored,” said Heather Mills about receiving the award. “A lot of hardword has paid off at Timberview. I'm very appreciative of this honor. It makes me want to work harder and be a better teacher and do more.”

One of the highlights from the nomination for Heather Mills was her being instrumental in the school's Helping Others through Giving (HOG) annual fundraising effort. HOG week is a week-long school wide program that has helped raise over $75,000 for sick children and charities over the last three years. The entire student body at Timberview is invited to be involved.

Said Mills when asked about HOG week, “we believe in giving back and being a part of this community. We do it because we know it's important.”

Mansfield ISD administration is proud to present the November 2010 Heartbeat Team Award to Heather Mills for her dedication to Timberview and the local community. She is an inspiration to not only her students but also the faculty and staff at Mansfield Timberview High School.
