The Air Force Junior ROTC Unit TX-20053 at Mansfield Timberview High School was selected as one of 403 units to receive the 2010-2011 Air Force Junior ROTC Distinguished Unit Award.
This award recognizes Air Force Junior ROTC units that have gone above and beyond to distinguish themselves through outstanding service to their school and community, while meeting the Air Force Junior ROTC mission of producing better citizens for America.
The Timberview unit is one of 884 high school Air Force Junior ROTC units across the United States and at selected schools in Europe, in the Pacific and Puerto Rico. Junior ROTC enrollment includes more than 117,000 cadets. There are currently 100 cadets from all four grade levels enrolled in the Timberview unit. The cadets are led by Lieutenant Colonel Terry Webster.
Additional Timberview Junior ROTC Unit Accomplishments:
- The cadets recently participated in a regional drill meet where they took Third Place in the Color Guard Competition and Cadet Lt. Col. James Johnson took First Place in the Individual Drill Down.
- The unit sponsored two children in the Adopt-A-Child Program over the holiday season
- The cadets participated in the Mansfield “Relay for Life” at Rose Park, where they were able to help raise $578 for cancer research.
- The Color Guard is one of the most requested in the area and has posted colors for such events as the PTSA, Phi Beta Sigma Honor Society, the Mansfield Policeman/Fireman softball game and the traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall.
