The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced 2,500 Merit Scholarship designees selected from more than 15,000 outstanding high school students from across the nation.
We are proud to announce two finalists from Mansfield ISD who will receive $2,500 scholarships to be used at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university. Please join us in congratulating these students:
Sooyeon Kim, Mansfield High School
Paige N. Riley, Legacy High School
The competition for National Merit Scholarships began in October 2009 when approximately 1.5 million juniors in some 22,000 high schools took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Following the exam, the number of competitors was reduced to about 16,000 qualifying semifinalists and eventually 7,800 finalists.
The group of finalists will earn the “Merit Scholarship” title and a collective total of nearly $35 million in college scholarships.
