[May 27, 2011]
The awards ceremony of the 11th annual Betty Lynn Buckley Awards took place on the evening of May 26, at Casa Manana in Fort Worth. Named in honor of Fort Worth’s own Tony award-winning actress, the Buckley Awards celebrate excellence in high school musical theatre across Tarrant County.
Mansfield ISD theatre students garnered a total of nine nominations; six for Mansfield High School’s production of Side Show, and three for Summit High School's production of Aida. MISD was represented by at least one student in six of the sixteen award categories.
We are proud to announce that Mansfield High School's musical theatre team won two of the prestigious Betty Buckley Awards. Please join us in congratulating these bright stars:
Best Female Actor: Kylie Arnold for her role as Violet
Best Lighting Design: Blake Manns, William Willoughby
The winners received a $500 scholarship to the college of their choosing. Kylie Arnold was also given the opportunity to travel to New York City this summer for the High School All Stars theatre program.
Congratulations to these students as well as the entire cast and crew of Side Show and Aida. Bravo!
