Speech Therapist “Speechless” Upon Receiving Heartbeat Team Award
[March 1, 2011]
If you have the opportunity to visit Tarver-Rendon Elementary, it won’t take you very long to find evidence of Lori Young’s efforts to encourage and support students.
As you walk toward Young’s Speech Therapy classroom, you will pass the outdoor Reading Garden she helps maintain. While on campus, you might also catch a glimpse of the 4th Grade Wall of Honor she and her husband prepared and painted to hang plaques to honor each fourth grader at the end of the school year.
“She has an absolute heart of gold,” said Tarver-Rendon Principal, Janet McDade. “She is the type of person who offers her help before you even have to ask. If something needs to be done, she just takes care of it.”
As a Speech Therapy teacher, Young works with students who have unique needs and challenges. Her knowledge and expertise make her qualified for her position, but it’s that extra special care and sensitivity she brings to the table that sets her apart.
Upon receiving the March 2011 Heartbeat Team Award, Young was surprised and elated.
“I’m amazed and speechless,” said Young. “This is a true honor!”
When asked to define a “successful school day,” Young answered without hesitation, “Seeing progress in the children, and also getting one of those extra special hugs from them.”
The MISD Administration is proud to present the March 2011 Heartbeat Team Award to Lori Young.
