District Calendar Process

The calendar presented to the School Board for approval was developed by the Districtwide Educational Improvement Council (DEIC) working as an ad hoc Calendar Committee. The group met in October to discuss calendar planning and finalize a calendar recommendation.

Two calendar options were developed and shared through an on-line calendar preference survey that ran December 13, 2010 through January 7, 2011. The anonymous survey allowed students, staff, parents and community members to indicate which of two calendar options they felt would be best for our staff, students and school community.

A total of 5503 individuals responded to the survey:

  • Parents favored Calendar Option A – 1727 to 672.
  • Students favored Calendar Option A – 616 to 94.
  • Staff favored Calendar Option A – 1959 to 311.
  • Community Members favored Calendar Option A – 107 to 17.

The DEIC endorsed Calendar Option A at a regular meeting on January 13, 2011.

The recommended 2011-2012 calendar includes 177-student attendance days and 10 staff development/teacher preparation days.
