Perry Elementary Aide named to District's Heartbeat Team
[February 14, 2011]
Willie Guidry is no stranger to the notion of going beyond the call of duty, which made him an obvious choice for the February 2011 MISD Heartbeat Team award. As an ISS Aide at Annette Perry Elementary, Guidry not only monitors students with discipline issues, he goes a step further by offering additional guidance and support to the students through motivational mentoring.
“Willie is a dynamic member of our staff,” said Perry Elementary Principal Sondra Thomas. “He is a wonderful mentor for the students, and he even makes time to play basketball with them.”
Of course, a game of hoops with “Mr. G” is a privilege to be earned, and Perry students understand the cost of this reward is to make positive choices throughout their school day.
Guidry received a wonderful Valentine’s surprise on Monday, February 14, as Superintendent Dr. Bob Morrison, along with Perry Principal Sondra Thomas and Assistant Principal Pam Elrod presented him with the MISD Heartbeat Team Award.
“I was completely surprised to receive this award,” said Guidry. “It is very humbling and exciting to be recognized for my work with students. It makes me feel like I am truly making a positive impact.”
