[April 11, 2011]
As the Associate Superintendent for Business and Government Affairs for Mansfield ISD, Lou Spiegel spends much of her time making tough decisions for the good of the school district. For the past 15 years, Spiegel has worked tirelessly to make sure MISD remained in stellar financial shape.
As she prepares for retirement at the end of this school year, she can rest easy knowing she was able to improve the financial state of MISD from the time she began work here in 1996.
Spiegel's commitment to the students, staff and community of Mansfield make her an outstanding selection for the April Heartbeat Team Award.
The surprise award presentation took place at the Executive Council meeting on the morning of April 5. Spiegel was stunned and delighted to be selected for this award by her fellow MISD employees.
“I never expected such an honor just for doing my job,” Spiegel said. “It's nice that people appreciate the things we've done over the years.”
When asked to reflect upon 15 years of service, Spiegel is quick to recall how much she enjoyed working with former District Superintendent Vernon Newsom.
“He was a great person and we made a great team.” Spiegel said.
Spiegel also has a soft spot in her heart for the students of MISD and is proud of the positive impact she was able to make on the lives of many.
She attributes a portion of her success to the community, noting the overwhelming support shown by the city of Mansfield and taxpayers during bond elections.
In a few short weeks, Spiegel will retire from Mansfield ISD with much to celebrate: the accomplishment of leaving MISD in better financial shape than when she started; peace of mind knowing she always tried to do what was best for students and many wonderful memories (especially the joy of becoming part of the MISD Heartbeat Team.)
Congratulations to Lou Spiegel, our April 2011 Heartbeat Team Award winner. We wish you a long and happy retirement! |
