District's 21st elementary school |
Mansfield ISD opens Annette Perry Elementary School to students following a delay in the construction process.
If the best things come to those who wait, then Perry Elementary students are in for a treat. On Tuesday, January 5, Annette Perry Elementary staff will welcome 275 students to their first day of school, again.
School within a school
The Perry Elementary students have been attending classes inside Cora Spencer Elementary School since the start of the 2009-10 school year. The District used a “school within a school” model in which Perry Elementary students and staff held classes inside Spencer Elementary. The Spencer Elementary campus had adequate space available for this alternative while construction was completed.
Construction Delay
The construction process for Perry Elementary was temporarily interrupted following the closure of the original contractor (Hisaw & Associates) in May 2009. Construction resumed early June 2009 and completed mid-November 2009 by Whiting-Turner Contracting Company.
