102 new teachers were given the opportunity to select from over 800 donated items for their classrooms.
On Friday, August 24, the MISD K.E.E.P.S. program sponsored a classroom item giveaway. [K.E.E.P.S. is the district's mentoring and induction program.]
All first and second year teachers, new to the district, received a coupon to select items from the donations provided. Items included three-ring binders, file folders, shelving units, in-baskets, desk accessories, teacher totes and more. 90 of the eligible teachers came to “shop” on their workday on a first come, first serve basis.
The K.E.E.P.S Program matches incoming new teachers with veteran teachers who provide a continuum of support in the areas of curriculum & instruction, resource acquisition, classroom management & organization, parent & community relations, campus & district procedures, student success and overall personal and professional growth.
"We'd like to extend a special thank you to Americredit for donating over 800 items as well as to Teacher’s Rule, for donated T-Shirts," says Venetia Sneed,
K.E.E.P.S Program Developer.
