On Wednesday, October 17, 2007 the Mansfield Independent School District will conduct its second annual College and Career Readiness Day of Testing at each high school campus, including the Alternative Education Center.
The MISD will pay testing fees for all 9th grade students to take the ACT PLAN, a powerful predictor of success on the ACT. The ACT PLAN focuses attention on both career preparation and improving academic achievement. PLAN can help all students—those who are college-bound as well as those who are likely to enter the workforce directly after high school. It is a comprehensive guidance resource that helps students measure their current academic development, explore career/training options, and make plans for the remaining years of high school and post-graduation years.
MISD has also provided for all 10th and 11th grade students to take the PSAT/NMSQT for free. The PSAT/NMSQT ® is the best preparation for the SAT Reasoning Test ™. Students in 11 th grade who take the test and meet other program entry requirements may enter National Merit Scholarship Corporation programs. Most important, the PSAT/NMSQT is a comprehensive tool that gives valuable feedback to both the student and the school.
Additionally, all MISD 12th grade students will take the ASVAB on October 17. Developed by the U.S. Department of Defense, the ASVAB Career Exploration Program was created with input from a panel of career development experts. It is designed to encourage students to increase their level of self-knowledge and to understand how that information can be linked to civilian and military occupational characteristics. The ASVAB Program recently was re-designed to be helpful to virtually all students, whether they are planning on immediate employment after high school in civilian or military occupations, or further education at a university, community college, or vocational institution.
