Dawn Cyganowski's class was also busy this year. Her students won 1,000 books from the Whoopi! We’re Reading! Sweepstakes, a national sweepstakes sponsored by Scholastic Book Clubs. The class donated their prize – 1,000 books from Scholastic – to Cook Children's Medical Center. The prizewinners were participants in Scholastic Book Clubs’ ClassroomsCare program – a philanthropic literacy initiative that encourages reading across the country.
“Dawn is such a blessing for our campus,” said campus principal, Patty Ayala. “She works very hard to meet the needs of her students. She understands and teaches her students to be better campus, community, and global citizens.”
When asked about the Heartbeat Award, Cyganowski replied “I was very surprised. [Teachers] don't do this for pats on the back, but it is so nice when our efforts get recognized.”
Cayganowski will be commended in an upcoming MISD School Board Regular Meeting.
