Ben Barber students competed and placed in various career and technology competitions. A few students and student teams will move on to represent MISD at national and international compeititions.

The BBCTA Technology Student Association competed in the Region 10 Regional competition on April 3-4 in Mesquite Texas. The student organization consist of students from three out of the four high school campuses. On the page attached is a detailed list of what each student competed in as well has how they placed. All items that are labeled NQE are events that could possibly lead the student to Nationals in Orlando Florida June 28-July2.

DECA Wins at State-Headed for Internationals – The Ben Barber DECA team in its’ 3rd year, has returned from State Competition held in Corpus Christi where they accomplished a big win in 10 categories. The students will be representing Texas DECA April 26-30th in Atlanta, Georgia.

The purposes of DECA’s competitive events are:
- to contribute to the development of skills necessary for careers in marketing, merchandising, management and entrepreneurship
- to evaluate student achievement of the skills through careful measurement devices (performance indicators)
- to provide opportunities for student and team recognition
- to provide constructive avenues for individual or team expression, initiative and creativity
- to motivate students to assume responsibility for self-improvement and self-discipline
- to provide a vehicle for students to demonstrate (via performance indicators) their acquired skills through individual or team activities
- to assist students in acquiring a realistic self-concept through individual or team activities
- to help students participate in an environment of cooperation and competition
- to provide visibility for the educational goals and objectives of marketing education
There are 185,000 DECA Students world-wide and last year 14,000 made it to the International level; about 7.5%. Our students are excelling and succeeding with students from all over the world.

Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) The following students competed at HOSA National Competition late June in Dallas. Students from 48 states competed at the National Health Occupations Students of America competition this year. The following students represented Mansfield ISD:
Elham Rahimy placed first in Medical Terminology and first in the Kaiser Permanente Health Care Issues Exam. Elham also received a $1000 scholarship award for getting first place in the Kaiser Permanente exam.
Faryall Hasan received the third place medal in extemporaneous speaking.

Allyson Weatherhead placed 4th in Interviewing Skills
Business Professionals of America (BPA) students competed recently at the State Contest. The national contest will be held in Reno this May.
Trevor Dawson of Mansfield HS was first in Banking and Finance Charles Celerier was first in Accounting.
They will both compete at nationals.
Preston Nix of Mansfield HS was 4th in Extemporaneous Speech and is the first alternate for nationals.
The software engineering team of Bill Jones, Donna Jones, and Javier Torres all from Mansfield HS is also an alternate for the national contest.
The students have all been invited to receive commendations from the MISD Board of Trustees at at upcoming board meeting.
