[September 11, 2006] False Alarm at Summit High School Monday Morning

Due to a false alarm that led to a campus lockdown, classes were disrupted for thirty minutes this morning at Mansfield Summit High School.

A class was outside taking some pictures including photos of students dressed in camouflage with mock rifles. A passerby assumed the worst and called authorities. The Arlington Police issued an immediate lockdown for the campus to insure student safety. When it was determined that it was a false alarm, normal classes and schedules resumed.

At no time were students in any danger. Students seen leaving campus following the lockdown were part of normal school day operations.

MISD Police and campus officials were pleased with how quickly and appropriately the students and staff responded to this incident.

Mansfield ISD is consistently rated as one of the fastest growing school districts in the state. The MISD has an enrollment of over 27,500 students and is expected to grow by nearly 10 percent each year. Mansfield ISD takes in 94.5 square miles and includes within its boundaries Mansfield, as well as sections of South Arlington, West Grand Prairie, Fort Worth, Rendon, Kennedale and Johnson County.

Forty percent of MISD students live in the city of Arlington, Texas.
