On Wednesday, July 12, at 10 a.m., James L. Coble, a beloved former Mansfield ISD Principal, took his first look at the inside of the middle school that bears his name on a private tour. Coble Middle School Principal Derrell Douglas lead the tour.
The District's opening ceremony for Coble Middle School will be Sunday, August 13, at 3:00 p.m. Students will attend class there beginning August 14, 2006.
James Coble moved to Mansfield when he was five years old. He grew up on one of the city's largest dairy farms, and graduated from Mansfield High School. After graduating from East Texas State [A&M Commerce], Coble joined the district in 1961, as a teacher and a coach, and finished his career in 1981, as Mansfield Junior High School principal. Today, he lives in Mansfield, close to his three daughters, Christy, Trecia, and Phyllis.
Derrell Douglas will be the first administrator assigned to James L. Coble Middle School. Douglas earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of North Texas in 1992, Master of Educational Administration from UTA in 1999, and his superintendent certification from UTA in 2004. He came to Coble Middle School from Nichols Junior High in Arlington. During his fourteen years at Nichols, Mr. Douglas was a teacher and coach (1992-1998), an assistant principal (1998-2001), and the principal (2001-2006). He lives in Mansfield with his wife, Jennifer, and four children, Caleb, Noah, Anna, and Zoe.
