FYI! Right now there are a limited number of childcare spaces available. Please, call Sherry Carson if you have any questions regarding current enrollment for the MISD Children’s Center. We want to thank our current and past parents for the wonderful word-of-mouth advertising. Your faith and trust in our Children’s Center is greatly appreciated.

The Children’s Center provides a print rich environment involving many activities for letter recognition and reading readiness. A major part of our daily curriculum includes creative representation, initiative and social relations, music and movement. We also have lots of hands on learning with classification by number, color, size, and shapes. Our children are having fun with their language and literacy development.  Active learning should be and can be fun learning!

Our Lead Instructor joins the classroom teams with preparing age appropriate activities and lesson plans. We realize that when the teachers are motivated about a particular unit of study the children will be equally motivated and have a more meaningful learning experience as a result. The weekly Lesson Plans are posted so that parents are aware of the current unit of study.

Texas Child Care Licensing requires that all Staff and Directors should obtain no less than 24 to 30 training hours respectively covering such topics as: child growth and development, guidance and discipline, age appropriate curriculum, teacher/child interaction, care of children with special needs, adult and child health, safety, risk management, identification and care of ill children, cultural diversity, professional development: effective communication, time and stress management, and preventing the spread of communicable diseases. Other required subjects are: topics relevant to the particular age group the caregiver is assigned, planning developmentally appropriate learning activities, study of the Texas Licensing Standards for Child Care. Each staff member is trained in CPR/First Aid for Infants, Children and Adults.

In addition, our Pre-K Staff have received many hours of training in the practical applications of Handwriting Without Tears, Classroom Management for Pre-K’s, and Literacy and Phonemic Awareness.

The children are continuing with their own learning milestones including their socialization and self-help skills. The learning of social interactions or “learning to play well with others” is a positive life skill.  Our self-help routines are especially important to encourage the children to develop their own sense of independence and self-esteem.
